Hugh Freeze Agrees to New Contract with Liberty

Six-Year Contract Worth $39 Million

Reported Buyout Option in October 2022

Liberty football head coach Hugh Freeze has agreed to a new eight-year contract that will elevate his salary to around $4 million per year, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the Group of Five. The contract will run through the 2028 season.

The new contract comes after Freeze reportedly had a Power Five-friendly buyout option in his previous contract that expired on October 28, 2022. However, the details of the new buyout option, if any, have not been disclosed.

According to contract details released by the school, Freeze's new deal will pay him a total of $39 million through 2030, with an annual salary of $6.5 million. This represents a significant increase from his previous salary of $2.5 million per year.

Freeze has led Liberty to a successful period of growth and success since taking over as head coach in 2019. The Flames have won three bowl games in the past three seasons and have finished ranked in the top 25 of the Football Championship Series (FCS) in each of those years.

The new contract is a testament to Freeze's commitment to Liberty and his belief in the program's potential. This is a significant development for Liberty football and will undoubtedly help attract top recruits and players to the university.
