Arsenal FC Manager History: From Thomas Mitchell to the Present

The Early Years: Thomas Mitchell (1897-1919)

Although Arsenal FC was founded in 1886, it was not until 1897 that the club appointed its first permanent manager, Thomas Mitchell. Mitchell had previously played for Arsenal and was a respected figure in the football community. Under his leadership, Arsenal won its first major trophy, the FA Cup, in 1901.

Herbert Chapman (1925-1934)

Herbert Chapman is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in Arsenal's history. He joined the club in 1925 and quickly transformed it into a dominant force in English football. Chapman was a pioneer of tactical innovation, and he introduced a number of new ideas to the game, including the use of the offside trap and the WM formation.

Arsène Wenger (1996-2018)

Arsène Wenger is Arsenal's longest-serving manager, having spent 22 years at the club. He joined Arsenal in 1996 and quickly turned the club into a powerhouse in both English and European football.

Wenger's greatest achievement with Arsenal was winning the Premier League title in 1998 without losing a single game. He also led Arsenal to two more Premier League titles, seven FA Cups, and one Champions League final
